…Traditionally, it is used to mean “the Church Fathers who received the teachings of the Apostles.” In the early period, only seven books were included: “Epistle of Barnabas,” “First Epistle of Clement,” “Second Epistle of Clement,” “Pastor of Hermas,” “Epistle of Ignatius,” “Epistle of Polycarp,” and “Martyrdom of Polycarp.” In the 19th century, “Fragment of Papias,” “Fragment of Quadratus,” “Epistle to Diognetus,” and “Didache” were added. Of these, only “Epistle to Diognetus” belongs to a series of documents called apologetics, but it is thought to have been included in the Apostolic Fathers because in chapter 11, verse 1, the author calls himself “the disciple of the Apostles.” …
