Ammonium sulfate is produced by recovering either ammonia or sulfuric acid after it has been used in various industries. It is generally obtained from waste liquid produced during the production of caprolactam, the raw material for nylon, or waste gas produced during the production of Bemberg rayon. The majority of ammonium sulfate produced in Japan is recovered ammonium sulfate. It is mainly used as nitrogen fertilizer.
