Paper that absorbs ink remaining on its surface. Also called pressed paper. It became popular from England in the late 19th century, but was used in Japan only after ink was imported in 1872 (Meiji 5). It began to be produced from around 1887, and when red-dyed cotton cloth was used as the main ingredient, it was pale red in color due to insufficient bleaching, but when wood pulp was used as the raw material, white paper was produced. It is filtered with the addition of fillers, dehydrated slowly, and dried for a long time at a low temperature to increase the gaps between the fibers.
