Jiangnan Army

Japanese: 江南軍 - こうなんぐん

A faction of the Yuan army, consisting mainly of surrendered soldiers from the Southern Song, that invaded Japan with the Eastern Army (Mongolian and Goryeo forces) during the Koan War in 1281 (4th year of the Koan era). After destroying the Southern Song in 1279, the Yuan dynasty had an urgent task of dealing with the surrendered former Southern Song soldiers. The Yuan dynasty therefore decided to use the former Southern Song soldiers in the second Japanese expedition, appointing Arakan as its commander-in-chief, but later replaced by Atahai due to illness. The Jiangnan army led by Fan Wenhu had 100,000 soldiers and 3,500 warships, and was originally scheduled to join the Eastern Army in Iki before June 15, but the plan was changed and they departed from Qingyuan (Ningbo) on June 18.

1281年(弘安4)の弘安の役時に東路軍(蒙古･高麗軍)とともに日本に遠征した，南宋の降兵を主体とした元軍の一派。1279年南宋を滅ぼした元にとって，降伏した旧南宋軍人の処置が緊急の課題となった。そこで元は旧南宋軍人を第2次日本遠征に利用することにし，阿剌罕（あらかん）を総司令官としたが，病気のため後に阿塔海（あたはい）がこれに代わった。范文虎（はんぶんこ）が率いる江南軍の兵員は10万人，3500艘の兵船で，はじめ6月15日以前に東路軍と壱岐で合流する予定であったが，作戦が変更され，6月18日に慶元(寧波)を出発した。
