Yellow stone

A prefecture-level city on the south bank of the Yangtze River in the eastern part of Hubei Province in central China. It is an industrial city and one of the important river ports on the Yangtze River. It governs four city districts and Yangxin County, and acts as the administrative agent for Daye City (as of 2016). Population: 2.651 million (2014). In 1950, it was incorporated as a city by merging the towns of Huangshi Port and Lijiang and the surrounding areas. The city area is rich in low mountains, hills, and lakes. It is rich in underground resources such as Daye Iron Mine, iron, copper, and coal, and supplies iron ore to Wuhan Iron and Steel, a subsidiary of Baowu Iron and Steel Group, and is also home to industries such as steelmaking, copper smelting, and cement. Since the reform and opening up, the apparel industry and alcohol manufacturing have also developed. It is located along the Wuchang-Jiujiang Line, and is also the terminus of the Wuhan-Huangshi Intercity Railway, which opened in 2014.

中国中部、湖北(こほく)省東部の長江(ちょうこう)（揚子江(ようすこう)）南岸にある地級市。工業都市で長江の重要河港の一つでもある。4市轄区と陽新(ようしん)県を管轄し、大冶(だいや)市の管轄代行を行う（2016年時点）。人口265万1000（2014）。1950年黄石港、石灰窰(せきかいよう)の両鎮と周辺地区を合併して市制施行。市域には低い山地や丘陵、湖沼が多い。大冶鉄山をはじめ、鉄、銅、石炭など地下資源が豊富で、宝武鋼鉄集団傘下の武漢(ぶかん)鋼鉄に鉄鉱石を供給するほか、製鉄、銅の製錬、セメントなどの工業も立地する。改革開放以降は、アパレル産業や酒類製造も発展している。武昌(ぶしょう)―九江(きゅうこう)を結ぶ武九線に沿うほか、2014年開通の武石城際鉄道（武漢―黄石）の終点でもある。
