Born: December 13, 1877 in Kyoto [Died] January 23, 1951. Businessman. One of the founders of Shochiku Co., Ltd. Born as the twin brother of Otani Takejiro, he was adopted by Shirai Kamekichi, the concessionaire at the Ebisuyaza Theatre in Kyoto. He became the head of the Kyoto Kabukiza Theatre, and in 1902, together with his brother Takejiro, established the Shochiku Partnership Company. He was involved in the management of the Asahiza Theatre and Bunrakuza Theatre in Osaka, and made great efforts to revive puppet theater and kabuki. In 1920, he established Shochiku Kinema, and also established the Shochiku Musical Drama Department, laying the foundation for what would later become the Shochiku Revue Company SKD. In 1932, he opened the Osaka Kabukiza Theatre. After World War II, he continued to work on rebuilding theaters all over Japan.
