Gibbsite - Gibbsite (English spelling)

It is the main component of bauxite. It occurs as a soil mineral or a low-temperature hydrothermal mineral, and forms euhedral crystals in the shape of hexagonal plates. It also forms massive or membrane-like nodules. It is in a homotetramorphic relationship with bayerite, nordstrandite, and doyleite (chemical formula δ (delta)-Al(OH) 3 ). Gibbsite itself has a polymorphic triclinic phase in addition to the commonly seen monoclinic phase. In Japan, a bauxite-like substance develops on the andesite plateau of Yashima, Kagawa Prefecture, and nodular substances can occur in Quaternary sediments, and in the Nippyo mine in Tochigi Prefecture, they form thin veins in recrystallized chert. It was named after the American mineral collector George Gibbs (1777-1834).
