Bray, CW (English spelling)

...For complex sounds, many elastic peaks occur at the basilar membrane, and a Fourier analysis of the sound waveform is performed at the basilar membrane.
[Electrical conversion of sound waves]
Meanwhile, EG Wever and CW Bray recorded a potential waveform with the same shape as a stimulus sound from above the bone near the round window of the cat's middle ear, and called it the cochlear microphone potential (1930). Subsequent research revealed that this potential fluctuation is an electrical phenomenon occurring in the inner ear, and is the sum of the potential changes occurring in the hair cell group and the action potential of the cochlear nerve bundle connected to the hair cells (ED Adrian and H. Davis, 1931), and various electrodes were devised to clarify this. In particular, Tasaki method by Tasaki Ichiji (1952) was a major contribution in this regard.
