A Buddhist sculptor of the main line of the Kei school in the early Kamakura period. Hokyo Yasukatsu. Unkei's fourth son. Following their father Unkei and their brother Tankei, they created the Nio and Niten statues for Kyoogokokuji around 1198, and the statues for the Hokuen-do Hall of Kofukuji in 1208. They also created the Four Heavenly Kings statues for Jizo Jurin-in (23), the bronze Amida Triad statue (32) for the Golden Hall of Horyuji, the Kobo Daishi statue (33) for Kyoogokokuji, and the statue of Kuya (inscribed "Monk Yasukatsu") for Rokuharamitsu-ji.
