Born: 1612. Loiret, Pithivier Died July 11, 1663. French painter in Paris. He became a member of the Royal Academy in 1651 and is said to have painted medieval-style religious paintings, but only about 20 of his works remain, and the only surviving works are a few still lifes, including "The Five Senses" and "Still Life with Pastries" (Louvre Museum). With their clear order and precise depiction, they are famous as masterpieces of 17th century French still life painting.
