Kayo [town] - Kayo

Japanese: 賀陽[町] - かよう

A former town in Jobo District, central Okayama Prefecture. Most of the town is made up of the Kibi Plateau, but the main settlement, Toyono, is in the Takenosho Basin in the north, and in addition to rice farming, the town also cultivates tobacco and livestock. The Gokei River (a scenic spot) straddling the city of Soja in the south is famous for its cliffs and strange stone pillars. In October 2004, it merged with Kamogawa Town, Mitsu District, to become a town, forming Kibichuo Town. Area: 127.58 ^km2. Population: 8,444 (2003).

岡山県中部，上房(じょうぼう)郡の旧町。大部分は吉備(きび)高原で占められるが，北部の竹荘(たけのしょう)盆地に主集落豊野があり，米作のほかタバコ栽培，畜産も行う。南の総社(そうじゃ)市にまたがる豪渓(ごうけい)（名勝）は絶壁，石柱の奇景で有名。2004年10月御津郡加茂川町と合併し町制，吉備中央町となる。127.58km²。8444人（2003）。
