The Japanese era name (nengo). It was the era name of Emperor Gohanazono during the Muromachi period from 1455 to 1457. The previous era name was Kyotoku . The era name was Choroku . The era name was changed on July 25, 1455 (4th year of Kyotoku). This was done to put an end to the misfortunes of war. The name was taken from the Shosho ( Shoushu ) (Book of Documents) and Shiji ( Shiji ). The Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate during the Kōshō era was Ashikaga Yoshimasa (8th shogun ).
