A military commander during the Northern and Southern Court period. The second son of Noriuji. Uma Gonno Kami and Shuri Gonno Daifu. He joined his father, who was fighting in Kyushu as the Kyushu Tandai, along with his brother Naouji, and fought against the Southern Court forces and Naofusa's party, but he returned to Kyoto by 1358 without any success. In 1359, he was appointed Shugo of Wakasa (Fukui Prefecture), and later also served as Shugo of Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture). Wakasa has traditionally been a place of strong independence for local lords, and in 1371, a large-scale Kokujin uprising occurred, but he sent his son, Akinori, to put it down, and established the first fully-fledged Shugo ruling system in Wakasa. 南北朝時代の武将。範氏の次男。右馬権頭,修理権大夫。九州探題として九州を転戦する父のもとに,兄直氏と共に途中より参陣し,南朝勢力および直冬党と戦ったが,結局成果をあげることなく延文3/正平13(1358)年までに帰京。貞治5/正平21年には若狭(福井県)の守護職を得,のちには三河(愛知県)守護も兼任している。若狭は伝統的に国人の独立性が強く,応安4/建徳2(1371)年にも大規模な国人一揆が起きたが,子息詮範を派遣してこれを鎮圧,若狭に初めて本格的な守護支配体制を確立した。三河慈雲寺(知多市)に墓がある。<参考文献>『小浜市史/通史編』上
