Kouin

Japanese:
Kouin

A Chinese rhyme book. Five volumes. Abbreviation of "Great Song Reworked Guangyun". It was compiled by Chen Pengnian, Qiu Yong and others of the Northern Song Dynasty by imperial order, and printed and distributed by the imperial court in 1008 (Dazhong Xiangfu 1) as a standard for rhyming when poetry was assigned for the imperial examination. It is based on the cut-rhyme rhyme books from the Sui and Tang dynasties, and is a substantial expansion of them. Over 26,000 characters are divided into 206 rhymes, and the annotations for each character include content similar to that of a Chinese encyclopedia. However, Banzhe did not change the pronunciation to match the Song dynasty's pronunciation, and the original form of "Cut-rhyme" is preserved quite well. Since the Qing dynasty, it has been valued as a basic source for the study of Sui and Tang pronunciation, replacing the lost "Qieyun," and its "Fanqie" in particular has been studied in detail.
