〘Noun〙① In gagaku, the practice of mainly playing the sho melodically, one at a time . As opposed to playing the aitake harmonically. ② A type of ryuu pipe. A single pipe made of ivory or bamboo , about three sun ( about 9.1 centimeters) long, with three finger holes on one side and one on the other, which can be opened and closed to produce each of the twelve notes of the ryuu. Four holes. ※Gotokei-ki - February 27, 1569 ( Eiroku 12) "Yesterday, while playing one bamboo and four holes, I went to Nagahashi's office in the kitchen early in the morning to _ask about it, _{but there was nothing} . I am so disappointed." ③ The name of a monster. ※Genpei Seisuiki (before the 14th century) 1 "If you look closely, you can see that it is a mound of bamboo. (Omitted) They called bamboo from the southern part of the prefecture, put it inside, and buried it next to Kiyomizu-dera temple. 〘名〙① 雅楽で、笙(しょう)を主として一本ずつ旋律的に吹くこと。和声的に吹く、合竹(あいたけ)に対する。② 律管の一種。象牙(ぞうげ)製、または竹製の、長さ約三寸（約九・一センチメートル）の一本の管で、一方に三個、他方に一個の指穴があり、その開閉によって十二律の各音を出すことができるもの。四穴(しけつ)。※言継卿記‐永祿一二年（1569）二月二七日「昨日一竹四穴落之間、早旦長橋局、台所等へ罷向尋_レ之無_レ之。無念々々」③ 怪獣の名。※源平盛衰記（１４Ｃ前）一「よくよく見れば毛(もう)しゅうなり〈略〉南台の竹を召、中に籠て清水寺の側に埋れたり。〈略〉毛しゅう一竹が塚と云は是也」
