A scholar of Japanese classics in the late Edo period. Son of the doctor Sakamoto Genboku from Ishinazaka Village, Kuji County, Hitachi Province (Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture). Commonly known as Heishiro, later Jinshiro, and pen name Ryushu. In 1802 (Kyowa 2), at the age of 16, he went to Edo and became a disciple of Hanawa Hokiichi, where he devoted himself to the revision of Gunsho Ruiju. At the age of 23, he was adopted by the hatamoto Nakayama Yurin, and rose from the position of official documentary officer to the position of official documentary head. His name became widely known when Hokiichi became a professor at the Japanese Studies Kodansho. His many books are mainly historical and geographical, including "History of the Journeys of the South," "Studies on Nanzan," "Clan Reference Materials," "Studies on the Shugo and Jito," "Records of Hitachi's Regimes," "Hitachi Chronology," and "New Compilation of Hitachi Kokushi." However, "New Compilation of Hitachi Kokushi" was not completed during Nobuna's lifetime, and was revised and expanded by Irokawa Minaka and Kurita Hiroshi, and was compiled about 100 years later.
