(2)語義は、平安時代は①の意であったが、平安時代末からの武家社会では、②のように使われた。
(3)江戸時代初期に開合の区別が失われたため、「とう(等)」と「たう(党)」がトウと同音になった結果、この時期以降「郎等」に加え「郎党」の表記も現われた。
