Public Security Examination Commission

This refers to an independent administrative commission established as an external bureau of the Ministry of Justice to review and impose measures on the restriction or dissolution of organizations that engage in "violent subversive activities" as defined by the Subversive Activities Prevention Law (promulgated in July 1952). The Public Security Examination Commission is made up of a chairman and six other members appointed by the Prime Minister with the consent of both Houses of the Diet from among "persons of high moral character who are able to make fair judgments regarding the regulation of organizations and who have academic and practical experience in law or society," and its term of office is four years. The Public Security Examination Commission can take the aforementioned measures only at the request of the Director-General of the Public Security Intelligence Agency, and cannot do so by its own authority (Article 11 of the Subversive Activities Prevention Law).

破壊活動防止法（1952年7月公布）が定める「暴力主義的破壊活動」を行う団体の活動制限または解散に関する審査および処分をなすために、法務省の外局として設置された独立行政委員会をさす。公安審査委員会は、「人格が高潔であって、団体の規制に関し公正な判断をすることができ、且つ、法律又は社会に関する学識経験を有する者」のうちから、両議院の同意を得て内閣総理大臣が任命する委員長および6名の委員よりなり、その任期は4年である。なお公安審査委員会は、公安調査庁長官の請求があった場合にのみ、前述した処分をなすことができ、自己の職権によっては行うことができないとされる（破壊活動防止法11条）。
