The Kansai Six Universities Baseball League was formed in the autumn of 1931 by six universities: Ritsumeikan, Doshisha, Kyoto, Kobe Commerce, Kansai, and Kwansei Gakuin. Two league games were played, one in the spring and one in the autumn. After 1962, a relegation game system was introduced, but in 1982, the five former powerhouse universities of Ritsumeikan, Doshisha, Kyoto, Kansai, and Kwansei Gakuin, along with Kinki University, formed the Kansai Student Baseball League. The six universities of Osaka Commerce, Kyoto Sangyo, Osaka Gakuin, Kobe Gakuin, Ryukoku, and Osaka Keizai took over the name of the Kansai Six Universities Baseball League.
