Kayazu

Japanese:
Kayazu
A post station on the medieval Kamakura Kaido road in Kaito County, Owari Province. It is located in Jimokuji Town, Kaifu County, Aichi Prefecture (now part of Ama City). It was also called "Kayatsu" or "Kaiitsu". According to the Azuma Kagami, Minamoto no Yoritomo stayed at Kayatsu in 1195, Shogun Fujiwara no Yoritsune in 1238, and Shogun Prince Munetaka in 1252. It seems that it was almost customary for Shoguns of the Kamakura Shogunate to stay here when traveling up or down the country. The 1242 Tokanki Kikou describes the bustle of the post station and the market, saying, "When we passed by the East Post Station in Kayatsu, people from the area gathered" and "Today is a market day." The prostitutes and puppets of Kayatsu were also famous and were written about in songs. However, due to changes in the route of the Kamakura Kaido road and other factors, its necessity gradually diminished, and it fell into decline by the Sengoku period.
