Yasuji Okamura

Japanese: 岡村寧次 - おかむらやすじ

1884-1966 A military officer from the Meiji to early Showa period.
Born May 15, 1884. After serving as Vice Chief of Staff of the Kwantung Army and Commander of the Second Division, he was promoted to General in 1941 and Commander of the North China Area Army. In 1944, he became Commander-in-Chief of the China Expeditionary Army and led Operation Breakthrough. After the war, he was found not guilty in a war crimes trial in China. He passed away on September 2, 1966. He was 82 years old. He was from Tokyo. He graduated from the Army War College.

明治17年5月15日生まれ。関東軍参謀副長,第二師団長などをへて,昭和16年陸軍大将にすすみ,北支那方面軍司令官。19年支那派遣軍総司令官となり,大陸打通(だつう)作戦を指揮した。戦後,中国の戦犯裁判で無罪となった。昭和41年9月2日死去。82歳。東京出身。陸軍大学校卒。
