Born May 15, 1884. After serving as Vice Chief of Staff of the Kwantung Army and Commander of the Second Division, he was promoted to General in 1941 and Commander of the North China Area Army. In 1944, he became Commander-in-Chief of the China Expeditionary Army and led Operation Breakthrough. After the war, he was found not guilty in a war crimes trial in China.
