膜翅(まくし)目に属する昆虫のうち，他の昆虫やクモ類などを捕らえて巣にたくわえ幼虫の餌とする一群のハチ類の通称。狩りバチともいう。分類上はスズメバチ科，ジガバチ科，ベッコウバチ科などに属する。餌となる動物の神経を毒針で麻痺させ，巣にたくわえる。餌は各種の昆虫にわたるが，ハチの種類により狩る昆虫は一定している。
