Public Security Intelligence Agency

Based on the National Administrative Organization Act, the Public Security Intelligence Agency was established as an external bureau of the Ministry of Justice under the Public Security Intelligence Agency Establishment Act. Its English name is Public Security Intelligence Agency, abbreviated as PSIA. It was established in July 1952 (Showa 27) when the Subversive Activities Prevention Act came into force. The Public Security Intelligence Agency is one of the special police forces established to apply the Subversive Activities Prevention Act (Act No. 240 of 1952), with the authority to investigate the regulation of subversive groups as stipulated in the Subversive Activities Prevention Act (Act No. 240 of 1952) and to request disciplinary action from the Public Security Examination Commission. The Public Security Intelligence Agency has a director general and other officials such as public security investigators. Its internal departments are the General Affairs Department, the First Investigation Department, and the Second Investigation Department, and its facilities include the Public Security Intelligence Agency Training Institute, and its regional branch departments are the Public Security Intelligence Bureau (8 bureaus) and Public Security Intelligence Offices (14 locations). Of these, the Public Security Intelligence Officers are engaged in investigations into the regulation of groups as stipulated in the Subversive Activities Prevention Act. However, investigators are not granted investigative powers.

国家行政組織法に基づき、公安調査庁設置法により法務省の外局として設置された国の行政機関。英語名称はPublic Security Intelligence Agencyで略称PSIA。1952年(昭和27)7月、破壊活動防止法の施行とともに設置。公安調査庁は、破壊活動防止法(昭和27年法律240号)に規定する破壊的団体の規制に関する調査と、公安審査委員会に対する処分の請求などをその権限とするように、破壊活動防止法を適用するための機関として設置された特別警察の一つである。公安調査庁には、長官などのほか、公安調査官などの職員が置かれる。内部部局として、総務部、調査第一部、調査第二部が、また施設等機関として公安調査庁研修所が、さらに地方支分部局として公安調査局(8局)および公安調査事務所(14所)が置かれている。うち公安調査官が破壊活動防止法にいう団体規制の調査に従事している。ただし、調査官には捜査権は付与されていない。
