Battle of Koan

Japanese: 弘安合戦 - こうあんがっせん

An internal conflict in the Kamakura Shogunate that occurred in 1285 (Kōan 8). Adachi Yasumori (who would become Akita Jonosuke for generations), a powerful vassal of Mutsu and brother-in-law of the regent Hojo Tokimune, assisted Tokimune, but the year after Tokimune's death (1284), he lost a power struggle with Taira no Yoritsuna, the chief vassal of Tokuso, known as the Uchikanrei (chief regent), and was exterminated as a traitor. It is sometimes called the Shimotsuki Incident in November of the lunar calendar, or the Akita Jonosuke Rebellion.

1285年（弘安８年）に起きた鎌倉幕府の内紛。執権北条時宗の義兄に当たり，時宗を補佐してきた陸奥(むつ)の豪族御家人安達泰盛（代々秋田城介(あきたじょうのすけ)となる）が，時宗没（1284年）の翌年，当時内管領(うちかんれい)と呼ばれた得宗(とくそう)被官の筆頭平頼綱との権力争いに敗れ，反逆者として討伐された。ときに旧暦11月，霜月(しもつき)騒動，秋田城介の乱ともいう。
