Stone-age pottery distributed from Hokkaido to islands south of Kyushu. It is named for the many rope patterns, but in the Meiji and Taisho periods it was called shell mound pottery or stone-age pottery. It is dark brown or brown in color, and the patterns include rope patterns, sunken lines, and stamped patterns. The main method of production is the ring-piling method, in which clay bands are piled up in a ring, but early pottery is made by rolling up thin clay. The vessels are basically divided into deep bowls and shallow bowls, but there are also incense burner-shaped pottery, double-mouthed pottery, and spouted pottery. Jomon pottery is divided into six periods: incipient, early, early, middle, late, and late, as the style varies depending on the era and region, and is also broadly divided into eastern and western Japan, with further fine regional differences. The oldest pottery is thought to be more than 10,000 years old. The technique of applying rope patterns is also seen in Yayoi pottery in eastern Japan. →Jomon period → Related topics Kamegaoka ruins|Higashisendo ruins|Yayoi pottery Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
