Koiwai Kiyoshi - Scary Kiyoshi

Social activist. Born in Nagano Prefecture. After entering Tokyo Imperial University in 1919 (Taisho 8), he was active as a member of the Shinjinkai. After graduation, he became a lawyer, participated in social movements in the Osaka region, and became head of the Osaka branch of the Communist Party. In 1923, he was arrested in the First Communist Party Incident. In 1927 (Showa 2), he joined the Labor-Farmer Party, but was critical of Fukumotoism, and was elected to the Osaka City Council in 1929, and formed the New Labor-Farmer Party in the same year. In 1930, he joined the movement to dissolve the New Labor-Farmer Party, and was elected to the Osaka Prefectural Assembly. In 1935, he founded the "Labor Magazine" with Kato Kanju and others. He worked hard to unify the labor front and promote the People's Front movement, and was arrested in 1937. After the war, he became the president of Aichi University.

社会運動家。長野県生まれ。1919年（大正8）東京帝国大学入学後、新人会会員として活躍。卒業後弁護士となり、大阪地方の社会運動に参加し共産党大阪支部長となる。23年第一次共産党事件で検挙。27年（昭和2）には労農党に加わるが、福本イズムには批判的で、29年大阪市議に当選し、同年新労農党を結成した。30年新労農党解消運動に加わり、大阪府議に当選する。35年加藤勘十(かんじゅう)らと『労働雑誌』を創刊。労働戦線の統一と人民戦線運動に尽力し、37年検挙された。敗戦後、愛知大学学長となる。
