This is a Chalcolithic culture from the end of the Predynastic Period of Egypt, also known as the Naqada II culture. It was named after the Gerze ruins downstream of the Nile. It is an extension of the Badari and Amra cultures, and its area expanded north and south from the Amra culture. Village communities that underwent a transformation at the end of the Amra culture grew into towns that became the centers of nomes in the second half of the 4th millennium BC. It is characterized by painted pottery, pottery with wavy handles, and spouted pottery. Stone tool processing technology reached its peak, and magnificent flint knives were made using the pressure peeling technique. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
