A former town in Taki District, eastern Hyogo Prefecture. It occupies the western part of the Sasayama Basin and the surrounding mountainous areas, and is served by the Fukuchiyama Line and the Maizuru Expressway. The town is known for producing high-quality Tamba tea, Tamba chestnuts, and Chinese yams, and also engages in forestry. Kawashiro Park is famous for its beautiful valleys and cherry blossoms. In April 1999, it merged with the towns of Sasayama, Nishiki, and Konda in Taki District to become a city, Sasayama City. Area: 83.74 km2 . Population: 14,503 (1995). 兵庫県東部，多紀郡の旧町。篠山(ささやま)盆地西部と周辺山地を占め，福知山線，舞鶴自動車道が通じる。良質の丹波茶，丹波グリ，ヤマノイモを特産し，林業も行う。川代公園は渓谷美と桜の名所。1999年４月に，多紀郡篠山(ささやま)町，西紀(にしき)町，今田(こんだ)町と合併し市制，篠山市となる。83.74km2。１万4503人（1995）。
