Getsuseiji Temple

Japanese: 月精寺 - げっせいじ

A temple located in Mount Odaesan, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, Korea. It was founded in 644 (the 13th year of the reign of Queen Seondeok of Silla). It is said to have been rebuilt in 1307 (the 33rd year of the reign of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo), but it was burned down at the end of the Yi dynasty, and the current buildings were all built after that. However, the nine-story octagonal stone pagoda (total height about 15m) located at the center of the temple complex is the most elegant of all octagonal stone pagodas from the Goryeo period, complete from the base to the pagoda, and is currently designated as a national treasure of Korea. The base, bowl, and flower arrangement are all made of stone, and the bronze pagoda above is thought to be of a later date in style.

韓国，江原道平昌郡珍富面の五台山中にある寺院。新羅善徳女王13年(644)創立。高麗の忠烈王33年(1307)再興と伝えられるが，李朝末期に全焼したので現在の諸建築はその後の作ばかりである。しかし伽藍の中心的位置にある八角九重石塔(全高約15m)は，高麗時代の八角石塔のうち，基壇から相輪まで完備した最も優美なる石塔で現在は韓国の国宝に指定されている。露盤，露鉢，受花までは石造で，それから上の青銅製相輪は様式的に後代のものと思われる。
