Sinn Fein

Japanese: シン･フェーン党 - シンフェーンとう（英語表記）Sinn Fein

A political group that promoted the Irish independence movement. Its name is Irish for "we ourselves." It was formed in 1905 under the leadership of Arthur Griffith with the aim of recreating the Gratan Parliament, and published its organ, Sinn Féin (1906-14). A support group was also formed in the United States. It advocated realistic policies, such as adopting the protectionism of Germany's Friedrich List in economic policy, but did not gain much support at first. It launched an anti-conscription campaign during World War I, and quickly gained support, but was not directly involved in the 1916 Easter Rising (although those who suppressed the uprising called it the Sinn Féin Rebellion).

アイルランドの独立運動を推進した政治団体。名称は〈われら自身〉を意味するアイルランド語。1905年にアーサー･グリフィスの指導でグラタン議会の再現を目的として結成され，機関紙《シン･フェーン》(1906‐14)を発行。アメリカにも支援団体が組織された。経済政策にドイツのフリードリヒ･リストの保護主義を採用するなど，現実的な政策を掲げたが，当初あまり大きな支持は得られなかった。第1次大戦に際して徴兵反対運動を起こし，にわかに支持を集めたが，1916年のイースター蜂起では，直接にはかかわりをもたなかった(ただし，この蜂起を鎮圧側はシン･フェーン反乱と呼んだ)。
