…A region in the north of England. Until 1974, it was a separate county, the largest in England, with an area of ​​6,123 km2 and a population of 5,047,567 (1971). It was divided into the city of York and the East, West, and North ridings. However, as a result of the administrative division reform in 1974, most of the East Riding became part of the county of Humberside, most of the North Riding became part of North Yorkshire and part of Cleveland, and the West Riding was further divided and reorganized into North Yorkshire in the north, West Yorkshire in the central area, and South Yorkshire in the south.
