This is a story of the drifting of the Owari ship Tokujo-maru (1200 koku, 14 crew), written by Ikeda Hirochika (Ransui), a servant of the Suganuma family of Shinshiro, Mikawa. It was completed in 1822. In November 1813, during its return voyage from Edo, it was shipwrecked in the Enshu Nada Sea, and after enduring 484 days of drifting, it was rescued by a British merchant ship off the coast of California, and returned to Japan in 1816 via the United States and Russia. The story is based on the experiences of the ship's steward, Jukichi. →Jiki Monogatari/Hokusa Monryaku Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
