Japanese: とさか(鶏冠) - とさか（英語表記）comb

A fleshy protuberance on the head of certain galliformes, such as chickens, also called the fleshy comb. The comb is one of the tertiary sexual characteristics, and is well developed in males. From a histological perspective, it is composed of an outer epidermal layer and several dermal layers, and can be considered a thickened protuberance of normal skin. It is generally red in color, and its function is mainly display and species recognition. In chickens, various shapes such as the simple comb, walnut comb, pea comb, and rose comb are distinguished, and they are known to arise through simple genetic control.

ニワトリなど，ある種のキジ目の鳥の頭上にある肉質の突起で，肉冠ともいう。とさかは三次性徴のひとつで，雄でよく発達している。組織的にみると，外側の表皮層と数層の真皮層より成り，通常の皮膚が分厚く隆起したものといえる。色は一般に赤く，その機能は主としてディスプレーと種の認識に役だつ。ニワトリでは単冠，クルミ冠，エンドウ冠，バラ冠などの形状が区別され，それらは遺伝子の単純な支配によって生ずることが知られている。
