Japanese: 柿本人麻呂歌集 - かきのもとのひとまろかしゅう

A collection of waka poetry from before the creation of the Manyoshu. It may have been compiled into two volumes by Hitomaro. It appears to have been composed of a non-abbreviated style section with a section classifying poems by the seasons of spring, autumn and winter, and a abbreviated style section with a section classifying poems by the physical symbols of gods, heaven, earth and man. The abbreviated style section, written with a relatively small number of characters mainly using ideographic reading characters, contains many love poems between men and women that are thought to have been sung at court banquets after around 676 (the 5th year of the Tenmu era). On the other hand, the non-abbreviated style section, written with a relatively large number of characters using phonetic Chinese characters for particles and other parts, contains many seasonal poems, poems about poems, and travel poems written for seasonal events, banquets, outings, and other occasions mainly for princes around 680-701.

《万葉集》成立以前の和歌集。人麻呂が2巻に編集したものか。春秋冬の季節で分類した部分をもつ〈非略体歌部〉と，神天地人の物象で分類した部分をもつ〈略体歌部〉とから成っていたらしい。表意的な訓字を主として比較的に少ない字数で書かれている〈略体歌〉には，676年(天武5)ころ以後の宮廷の宴席で歌われたと思われる男女の恋歌が多い。いっぽう助詞などを表音的な漢字で書き加えて比較的に多い字数で書かれている〈非略体歌〉には，680‐701年ころの皇子たちを中心とする季節行事，宴会，出遊などで作られた季節歌，詠物歌，旅の歌が多い。
