A heroic epic poem thought to have been written among the nomadic Tibetans of northeastern Tibet after the 9th century. The poem consists of 25 parts, and its main contents include the upbringing of the protagonist, Geser (Gesar) Khan, king of Ling, his battles with various demons, his battles with the northern Khor-Jan countries, his relief efforts in Tibet, and his battles with China. From around the 16th and 17th centuries, this story spread to Tibetan-Mongolian areas of Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Inner Mongolia, as well as as far away as Ladakh, Bhutan, Sikkim, Outer Mongolia, and Transbaikal regions.

9世紀以降チベット北東部の遊牧チベット族の間で成立したとみられる英雄叙事詩。詩は25部から成り，そのおもな内容は，主人公のリン国の王ゲセルGeser(Gesar) khanの生い立ち，各種の妖魔鬼怪との戦い，北方のホル･ジャン諸国との戦い，チベット本土への救援活動，中国との戦いなどの物語である。16～17世紀ころからこの物語はチベット，青海，甘粛，四川，雲南，内モンゴルのチベット･モンゴル族区をはじめ，遠くラダック，ブータン，シッキム，外モンゴル，ザバイカル諸地方にまで伝播した。
