Thought guidance - Shisou Zendou

Japanese: 思想善導 - しそうぜんどう

A social education and indoctrination policy or slogan aimed at a return to the traditional Japanese spirit, rejecting as excessive Westernization the liberal and individualistic trends that had finally begun to take hold during the height of Taisho democracy after World War I, socialist ideas such as Marxism that had rapidly spread among intellectuals and students, and materialism and the belief in the omnipotence of money that had become widespread in society with capitalist development. It sought to thoroughly implement the idea of the national polity and promote national ideology, paving the way for the later National Polity Clarification Movement.
