A type of glove. An abbreviation for military gloves. In modern times, they have become popular and are used for practical purposes such as labor and mountain climbing. They are made of plain white knitted cotton and, like military gloves, can be worn on both the left and right sides, making them versatile. The oldest surviving pair of gloves in this style were used by Mitsui Hachiroemon I during the Genroku period (1688-1704). They are characterized by a diamond pattern woven into the upper part of the glove. [Takeshi Endo] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
