Born: December 7, 1801 in Vienna
Died: May 25, 1862. Actor and playwright from Graz, Austria. He initially studied law, but in 1822 became an opera singer at the Vienna Court Theater. He later became a successful comedian. As a playwright, he portrayed the social conditions of the time realistically and satirically, and became a representative playwright of the Vienna Folk Theater. His main works include Der böse Geist Lumpazivagabundus (1833), Zu ebener Erde und erster Stock (The First and Second Floors) (35), and Einen Jux will er sich machen (The Disposal of the Usagi) (42).
