1695‐1764 An Italian violinist and composer of the Baroque period. It is said that he studied violin in Rome as a young man under the late Corelli. He later became active in Amsterdam, composing numerous church sonatas, concertos grossos, violin concertos, and more. The Capriccio in "Les Violines" (1733), which requires highly skilled playing technique and is rich in musicality, foreshadows the cadenzas of modern violin concertos after the Classical period.
