In the narrow sense, it is a general term for insects of the Aeschnidae family of the order Odonata, and in the broad sense, it is used as a common name for large dragonflies including species of the Aeschnidae, Bucconidae, and large Aeschnidae families. Dragonflies of the Aeschnidae family are generally large, with a body length of over 60 mm, and the left and right compound eyes are widely attached to each other on the back. There is no cleft in the middle piece of the lower lip, but there is a pair of small projections in the center. The female has a well-developed ovipositor on the ventral surface of the 8th and 9th abdominal segments. The triangular chambers of the forewings and hindwings are almost identical in shape and are longer toward the tip of the wing. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
