Hiroshi Ohshita - Hiroshi Ohshita

Japanese:
Hiroshi Ohshita - Hiroshi Ohshita

Professional baseball player (outfielder, left-handed batter and pitcher), manager. Born on December 15th in Kobe, he moved to Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1936 (Showa 11). He was the ace and number 4 hitter for the Kaohsiung Commercial High School baseball team. In 1942, he entered Meiji University, but the six-university baseball league was suspended that year due to the war, and he did not play a single game and enlisted in the military the following year in 1943. He returned to school in 1945, but dropped out and joined the Senators (now the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters), and won the home run title in his first year with the team in 1946. His 20 home runs were a new record at the time, doubling the previous record of 10 held by Haruyasu Nakajima and Kazuto Tsuruoka. In 1947, the year after the team's name was changed to Tokyu Flyers, he won the double crown in batting average and home runs. The ball was worthy of being described as an arch, and in contrast to the bullet-like liner of Tetsuharu Kawakami, it flew high and arced far. People were fascinated by his home runs, and he and Kawakami were equally popular in the professional baseball world at the time, and they were said to be "Kawakami with the red bat and Oshita with the blue bat." In 1952, he moved to the Nishitetsu Lions (now the Saitama Seibu Lions), and left in 1959. In 1968, he served as the manager of the Toei Flyers (now the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters) for one year.

His stats as a player over 14 years were 1,547 games played, 1,667 hits, a batting average of .303, 201 home runs, and 861 RBIs. His main titles were batting champion three times, home run king three times, Most Valuable Player (now MVP) once, and Best Nine eight times. His stats as a manager (one year) were 80 games played, with 30 wins, 46 losses, and 4 ties, for a winning percentage of .395. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (Baseball Hall of Fame Museum) in 1980 (Showa 55).
