A public theater located on the south bank of the River Thames in London during the Elizabethan era in England. It is known as the theater where the Lord Chamberlain's Men (later the King's Men) performed and where many of Shakespeare's works were premiered. Founded by C. Burbage in 1599, it was destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and demolished in 1644. In 1997, after more than 25 years of restoration efforts, it was rebuilt for the first time in over 350 years. The New Globe Theatre was built faithfully to the architectural style of the time, and is a theater that brings to life the 17th century scenes when famous works were performed.
