In the same year, the Umayyad Caliph, Sulayman, attacked the capital by land and sea, enduring a year-long siege before finally defeating Islam in the Battle of Akhroinon (740). He carried out administrative reforms within the country, promulgating the Eklogē (726), a collection of private and criminal law from the Corpus Juris Juris, and working to improve the legal system.
