Left-thinking

A Chinese literary figure from the Western Jin Dynasty. His pen name was Taichu. He was from Linzi, Qi (Linzi County, Shandong Province). He was from a lowly family and had an ugly appearance, so he devoted his energy to literature. When his sister Fen became a concubine of Emperor Wu, he moved to the capital, Luoyang. Here, he spent 10 years creating "Fu to the Three Capitals." Notable people of the time wrote prefaces and annotations for it and praised it, so the upper classes competed to copy it. It is said that as a result, the price of paper in Luoyang soared. This fu, like the "Fu to the Two Capitals" by Ban Gu of the Han dynasty, and the "Fu to the Xijing", "Fu to the Tokyo", and "Fu to the Nanto" by Zhang Heng, boasts of the splendor of the capitals of Shu, Wu, and Wei through dialogue between host and guest. The poems are excellent, with eight poems in "Yingshi" and two in "Zhaoyin". "Zuo Shiji" had five volumes. There is a biography in volume 92 of "Jin Shu".

中国、西晋(せいしん)の文人。字(あざな)は太冲(たいちゅう)。斉(せい)国臨淄(りんし)（山東省臨淄県）の出身。家柄低く容貌(ようぼう)醜かったため文学に精力を傾ける。妹芬(ふん)が武帝の貴嬪(きひん)となったため都の洛陽(らくよう)に移る。ここで10年の歳月を費やして「三都(さんと)の賦(ふ)」をつくる。時の名士たちがその序や注釈をつくって賞揚したため、上流社会は競って伝写した。そのために洛陽の紙価が高騰したという。この賦は漢の班固(はんこ)の「両都の賦」、張衡(ちょうこう)の「西京の賦」「東京の賦」「南都の賦」と同じく、主客の問答に託して蜀(しょく)、呉(ご)、魏(ぎ)の都の壮観を誇示したもの。詩は「詠史」8首、「招隠(しょういん)」2首が優れている。『左思集』5巻があった。『晋書』巻92に伝がある。
