Abebe - Abebe (English spelling) Abebe Bikila

Japanese: アベベ - あべべ(英語表記)Abebe Bikila
Abebe - Abebe (English spelling) Abebe Bikila

An Ethiopian marathon runner and soldier. He won the 1960 Rome Olympics barefoot and was called the "Barefoot Champion." He also won the 1964 Tokyo Olympics with a time of 2 hours 12 minutes 11.2 seconds, the best time at the time, becoming the first man in Olympic history to win two consecutive marathons. He also competed in the 1968 Mexico Olympics, but was unable to win a third consecutive victory due to a leg injury. In March 1969, he was involved in a car accident and was forced to use a wheelchair, but he participated in the Paralympics (an international sports event for the physically disabled), which became a talking point. After his death, Emperor Haile Selassie I built the Abebe Memorial Stadium, covering 50,000 square meters, in his honor in the capital, Addis Ababa.
