A fishing method using gill nets. Gill nets are strips of net fabric that are used to catch target marine organisms by threading them through the mesh or entangling them in the fabric. In general, floats and sinkers are adjusted and stretched vertically to block the migration path of the target species. There are floating gill nets for pelagic fish and squid, and bottom gill nets for bottom fish, shrimp, crabs, etc. There are also types of gill nets that are fixed with anchors, and drift nets that are not fixed. The height of the net is determined by the thickness of the swimming layer of the target species and the density of the schools, and the length is determined by the location where it is hung and the difficulty of handling it.

刺網を用いて行う漁業。刺網とは帯状の網地で，目的とする水産生物を網目に刺しこませたり，網地にからませたりして漁獲する漁具である。一般に，対象種の移動進路を遮るように，あば(浮子)といわ(沈子)を調節して垂直に張る。浮魚，イカなどを対象とした浮刺網，底魚，エビ，カニなどを対象とした底刺網がある。また，錨などで固定して使う場合と，固定せずに使う流し網とがある。網の高さは対象種の遊泳層の厚さ，群れの密度によって決まり，長さはかける場所，取扱いの難易によって決まる。
