A national park in southwest Oregon, USA. It covers an area of 641 km2 and was established in 1902. It is centered around Crater Lake, a caldera lake formed by the explosion of Mount Mazama in the Cascade Range. John Hillman, who discovered the lake in 1853, named it "Deep Blue Lake" because of the beautiful azure water surface surrounded by steep cliffs. A balance between evaporation, seepage, and precipitation keeps the water level almost constant. It is the deepest lake in the United States, with a depth of 589 m.
