…　10世紀以後，天皇の遊猟は行われなくなり，鷹飼の殺生をいとう説話が《今昔物語集》に見られるように，殺生禁断による制約も強くなるとともに，朝廷の鷹飼はしだいに儀式化していった。しかし978年(天元1)出羽国から貢進された鷹･犬が，天皇が見たのちに蔵人所から師貞親王や近江供御所に班給された事実(《小右記》)の示すように，鷹飼は天皇に直属しており，やがて近衛府の下級官人の家に固定するようになっていく。9世紀後半から10世紀前半以降，下毛野（しもつけぬ）氏から〈御鷹飼〉となるものが多く出，11世紀にはまだ中臣氏も鷹飼になっているが，院政期になると下毛野氏による鷹飼職の世襲，河内国交野禁野の鷹飼免田の相伝がほぼ定まった。…
