[Died] January 3, 1956. New York. Russian composer. Studied under A. Arensky at the Moscow Conservatory and N. Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1903, his opera "Dobryniya Nikitich" was a success with F. Chaliapin as the soloist, but thereafter he devoted himself to composing church music and songs. In 1925 he left Russia and lived in Paris, and in 1946 he became a naturalized American. His works include operas, oratorios, cantatas, symphonies, and chamber music.
