...As a result, postwar literature was always subject to the direct influence of political changes. Immediately after the war, literature was centered on works that took as their theme the experience of war, such as humanistic protests against the crimes of the Nazis (Z. Nałkowska's "The Rocket"), "camp literature" (Tadeusz Borowski (1922-51)), dramas surrounding the popular government and its moral problems (J. Andrzejewski's "Ashes and Diamonds" and Roman Bratny's "Columbus and His Friends" (1921- ). Many other writers also tackled this subject, including K. Brandys, A. Rudnicki, W. Żukrowski, J. Putrament, T. Breza, and S. Dygat. The buds of this rich literature were nipped in the bud by the imposition of socialist realism, especially after 1950. ...
